Haw Ridge Park

The 780-acre park is situated on scenic peninsula along the Clinch River between Knoxville and Oak Ridge, Tennessee. With more than 30 miles of single-track and dirt trails to explore, this Tennessee destination is known for its mountain bike trails, which are also perfect for hikers, trail runners, and equestrians.

Windrock ATV Park

This park near Oliver Springs is a 72,000-acre playground for thrill-seekers looking to have some good, dirty fun. Visitors from all over the region bring their off-highway vehicles (OHV), including ATVs, side x sides, dirt bikes, Jeeps/4x4s, buggies, and trucks, to explore Windrock Park’s challenging trails, winding creeks, rocky obstacle courses, and steep ridges.

University of Tennessee Arboretum

The UT Arboretum is a 250-acre field research laboratory that develops new technologies in areas of modern forestry, wildlife resources management, and environmental stewardship. Every year more than 30,000 visitors explore the UT Arboretum, which is home to more than 25,000 varieties of native and exotic plants. The arboretum also boasts several lush greenways perfect for walking, hiking, or biking.

Playgrounds

With an impressive network of 12 large, modern playgrounds, it’s clear why Oak Ridge, Tennessee was recently named a Playful City USA. As the government rapidly built the city during World War II, city planners created a playground within walking distance of every neighborhood. City Parks

The city of Oak Ridge is home to nearly 20 city parks, numerous sports fields, a skate park, and a dog park. Golf

Oak Ridge is home to one of the premier public golf courses in East Tennessee. Centennial Golf Course takes golfers through natural forests and rolling hills, presenting a championship layout with plush Bermuda fairways and Bentgrass greens. Oak Ridge also boasts the private Oak Ridge Country Club, which is the home course of two-time PGA tour winner Scott Stallings.

Disc Golf

Oak Ridge offers free access to two disc golf courses year round: Groves Park and Carl Yearwood. Located on a former golf club, Groves Park has two disc golf courses that are great for players of all levels. While most of the 27 holes are long and open, some are on hilly and wooded terrain. At Carl Yearwood Park, disc golfers are presented with a challenging 9-hole, Par 3 course. Situated in a wooded area, this course presents disc golfers with several low ceiling shots and water obstacles.

Swimming

Oak Ridge’s Outdoor Pool is a great location to cool off from the summer heat. As one of the largest spring-water-fed outdoor pools in the nation, this popular family pool has 25 and 100-meter courses. Prefer to cool off in the lake? With 173 miles of shoreline, Melton Hill Lake is a fantastic place to swim, SUP, kayak, canoe, or row.

Secret City Half Marathon

Held annually in November, the Secret City Half Marathon will challenge even the most experienced runners. The Secret City Half Marathon is a part of the Appalachian Distance Series, which also includes a 5K race.

5Ks and other Running Events

From the Neon Vibe to the Ninja 5K, Oak Ridge offers a variety of fun 5K races for runners of all skill levels. Whether you’re a sprinter, jogger, or walker, Oak Ridge likely has a 5K just for you.
