The 68th anniversary of the very-first public school desegregation in the Southeastern United States will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 from 5 to 7 pm in Bissell Park in Oak Ridge.
The anniversary celebration will be held at the future location of the planned Scarboro-85 Monument and Historical Interpretive Site, next to the Oak Ridge Friendship Bell in center-city Bissell Park. The public is cordially invited. It’s recommended that you bring your own chairs to the celebration. The program will include a short service, choirs, and poetry — in remembrance of this landmark achievement in American history.
