Event Details
After 67 years, it is time to honor the 85 Students from the Scarboro Community – the first African American students to desegregate a public school in the Southeastern United States. A permanent structure will help reach the goals of the Scarboro 85 Monument Committee to educate, preserve, and unify the forgotten history of Oak Ridge.
With this in mind, we invite you to support the Kickoff Luncheon on February 23, 2023, at the Doubletree Oak Ridge. Join us for lunch, music, and our speaker – Rev. Harold Middlebrook, a friend of the Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. and an active member of the civil rights movement.
Lastly, this event will give you a first look of the Scarboro Monument conceptual design and the opportunity to meet some of the heroic students themselves.
