The Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony is sponsored yearly by the Recreation and Parks Department. The tree, a Norway Spruce, was presented by the Woman’s Club to the City and has become part of a growing community tradition.Participants gather at the AK Bissell Park Pavilion for seasonal music and light refreshments beginning at 6:30 pm.  After the program, participants walk to the Commemorative Walk on the east side of the Oak Ridge Library parking lot for a brief ceremony ending with the lighting of the tree.  In the event of inclement weather, the program will begin in the Civic Center Gymnasium (Shep Lauter Room).
