Event Details
The Obed Wild and Scenic River will be partnering with the Morgan County School Food Services and Frozen Head State Park to offer a “Lunch and Learn” program series that will take place on Fridays starting June 17th, through July 22nd, 2022.
Lunches provided are through the Summer Feeding Program that is sponsored by Morgan County School Food Services and the Morgan County Healthier Tennessee Community.
This program is available to all participants, regardless of what county they reside. Morgan County is one of the Tennessee counties that is designated a Healthier Tennessee county that is striving to encourage healthy lifestyles.
This year’s programs will include in person, ranger led programs at both Obed Wild and Scenic River and Frozen Head State Park.
Pre-registration is required for the programs given at Frozen Head State Park.

These free programs and activities will be held at the following locations:
| Friday, June 17th | 11:00 a.m. | Obed Wild and Scenic River- meet at Visitor Center 208 N. Maiden StreetWartburg, TN 37887 | Animals of the Forest- Join us as we learn all about the animals that call this part of the Cumberland Plateau home and what makes each one unique and able to survive here. |
| Friday, June 24th | 11:00 a.m. | Frozen Head State Park- Meet at the Old Mac Trailhead | Interpretive Loop Hike– Join Rangers at the Old Mac Trailhead for a half mile hike around the Interpretive Loop. Lunches will be provided for registered participants aged 17 and under. Pre-registration is required at: https://tnstateparks.com/parks/events/frozen-head |
| Friday July 1st | 11:00 a.m. | Obed Wild and Scenic River – meet at Lilly Bluff Overlook Parking Lot | Hike to Lilly Bluff Overlook- The Obed has one of the most beautiful overlooks in Tennessee. Join us as we take the short hike to the Lilly Bluff Overlook and enjoy the spectacular view. |
| Friday, July 8th | 11:00 a.m. | Obed Wild and Scenic River- meet at the Visitor Center 208 N. Maiden StreetWartburg, TN 37887 | The Life of a Long Hunter- Find out what it was like to be a long hunter in the early days of Tennessee. Ranger Jordan will be dressed in authentic long hunter clothing for you to see firsthand. This program will give you an up-close experience of what it took to be a long hunter. |
| Friday, July 15th | 11:00 a.m. | Frozen Head State Park – meet at the Big Cove Playground | Creek Crawl- Join rangers at the playground below the campground to catch critters in the creek and to explore water quality. | Friday, July 22nd | 11:00 a.m. | Obed Wild and Scenic River – meet at Nemo Picnic Area | Let’s go exploring! – Join us as we explore the area of Nemo. We will venture to the old bridge and learn more about the history of this area of the park. |
